A rare on-line reference to Statfold can be found here:

“The relationship between Ward Dilke and his wife seems to have been a difficult one – certainly in the later years of their marriage. Their daughter, Frances, left home and lodged for some years with the Wolferstan family at Statfold Hall in Staffordshire where she died in 1740. This was the home of her maternal aunt who had married Stanford Wolferstan, a member of an ancient Staffordshire family.”

My reply is not relevant to above discussion but having found this site I thought I would make an enquiry. In the 1881 census my husband’s great aunt, Grace Richmond was a domestic servant at Statfold Hall. She was 28 years old and unmarried. Did Statfold Hall keep details of employees and if so would it be possible to find out what happened to Grace? I know this query is totally off the radar but someone may be able to point me in the right direction. Trying to fill indetails on family tree. Boxing Day here in NZ. Cheeers. Clare and Eric Richmond
On reading the above note by Clare and Eric Richmond, I would also like to find out more of employees. In 1939ish My Grandfather was living at the Gardeners Cottage Statfold, and grandmother was possibly an employee also at the hall. Any help however small would truly be appreciated, thank you Jane Tomkinson UK
Hi Jane, I know the current residents of Gardeners Cottage, would you advise me of your Grandmothers name? I may be able to help you.
Many thanks Jo Osborne
Joanna,
I know this is perhaps a long shot, but I’m interested in contacting the current owners of Statfold Hall regarding some research I’m doing on the Wolferstan family. Is there any possibility you could contact the residents of Gardeners Cottage to see if I might be put in touch?
Any information you could provide would be most welcome.
All best,

Did you ever get a reply to your query. Clare Richmond
Dear Handed On,
I’m researching the Wolferstans who lived at Statfold Hall in the 17th century and would be delighted if you have any further information about the property and its current owners, especially regarding contemporary portraits of some of the members of the Wolferstan family which supposedly survive.
Cheers!
Hi, thanks for enquiring. Unfortunately, as may be apparent, Statfold was one of the earlier postings here and not so widely-researched as they have since become. However, I do have one decent lead which might be worth following up if possible. Since ‘doing’ Statfold I have discovered a feature on the house & family that was published in the magazine The Field on 4 Oct 1986.
I don’t have a copy, I’m afraid – the one I saw was at the British Library – but I noted that the accompanying photos included pictures of the drawing room and the hall. Almost certainly the article will have discussed significant ancestors, possibly referencing portraits, and will have referred to the owners at the time the author visited.
Anyway, good luck with your researches – and do report back with any interesting findings!
Many thanks for getting back to me; in all the bustle of related research, I forgot to see whether you’d followed up! I’m currently in the process of tracking down the article in The Field and will certainly let you know if I discover any new information.

I know the owner of Statfold Hall.We have correspondence on email about his ancestor before. He is very kindly and helpful.Even pointed out the grandaughter of the his ancestor of whom I am researching. He did sent me a picture of his ancestor of which I required for my personal research too.
My Father, Dennis Mortiboys, was head Gardener at Statfold Hall for about 3 years around 1958 and we lived in the gardener’s cottages which were divided into 2 homes. My mother also helped out in the Hall. I played with the boys in the other half and with the girls from the farm and the children from the ‘labourer’s cottage near the farm. We roamed all over the fields and woods, an idyllic existence. I live in Canada now.
Were the girls from the farm Dorothy, Noreen, Pat or Sue and possibly David the boy. The Bayleys and Richardson’s lived in the labourers cottages.
Just realised the above date was incorrect, we lived there around 1948 to 1951.
One of the boys in the other half of the Gardeners cottages was called Tony.
